Slates slipping every winter?Repaired or renewed, matched to the street.
Slipped slates, cracked tiles, a ridge letting the wind under it. We survey the covering and the felt and battens underneath, then price the pitched roofing work in writing. Ask us for a Quick Quote with your postcode.
Moss was sliding off our tenement roof into the gutters every winter. They cleared the lot, took the gutters back to clean metal and treated the slates. First dry close in years.
Fiona M., Dennistoun Google
Lead flashing round the chimney on our slate roof had lifted and the bedroom ceiling was marking. Surveyed it, priced it in writing, redressed the lead properly. No drama, no upsell.
Craig B., Bearsden Google
Flat roof on the kitchen extension started dripping during a downpour. They came out in the rain, patched it and stopped the water, then came back and put EPDM over the whole thing.
Margaret K., Shawlands Google
New guttering and fascias the full length of the house. Old timber was rotten behind the boards, which they showed me before touching it. Tidy job and the price did not move.
Tom R., Bishopbriggs Google
Chimney stack was shedding mortar onto the pavement. Repointed, new flaunching, cowls on both pots, lead tray at the base. Explained every step and left the close spotless.
Aileen D., Partick Google
Two slipped slates and a cracked ridge after the January storms. Fixed the same week, matched the slate, and the written quote came before anyone went up a ladder.

Repair or re-roof
One slipped slate, or the whole roof? The survey says which.
Most pitched roofs in Glasgow fail a few slates at a time, and those are repaired with matched slate and new fixings. But when the nails have rusted through across the roof, the slates slide every time the wind gets up, and a repair this winter is followed by another next winter. The survey checks the covering from the roof and the felt and battens from inside the loft, and tells you which roof you have.
You get the photographs and a plain answer in writing: repair these slopes, renew that one, or strip and re-roof the lot. The size of the job does not change how we work: nobody is priced from the pavement and nobody is pushed into a re-roof they do not need.
Slipped, cracked or missing slates and tiles
Ridge, hip and valley work in the same job
Felt and battens inspected from inside the loft
Rotten timbers found before the covering goes on
What goes on the roof
Matched to the street.Built to carry the weight.
Slate is heavy and tile is heavier, and a pitched roof carries that weight down through the battens and rafters to the walls. New slates or tiles are matched to the existing ones so the roof reads the same from the street and loads the timber the way it was designed to. Where the felt has perished it is renewed, and battens are replaced rather than nailed through again.
Ridge, hip and valley work happens in the same job, with the lead dressed and the ridge tiles bedded so the wind cannot get under them. The materials are weather-resistant and warranty-backed, and the terms sit in your paperwork with the quote. Where the chimney stack needs its lead flashing redone, it is done while the scaffold is up.
When we leave
Watertight before we go.Scaffold down, drive swept.
The roof is photographed from above when it is finished, so you can see the new slates, the ridge and the valleys without climbing a ladder. You see the photos before you see the invoice. The scaffold comes down and the drive is swept. A full strip and re-roof with timber work is a bigger job, run by the same roofing contractor with the scaffold, the timber checks and the felt itemised on one quote.

Eight more roofing services.Same firm, same method.
A pitched roof has a roofline, a chimney and usually a flat section somewhere. These are the other jobs we do, and every roofing service we offer starts the same way: survey first, then the price in writing.
Guttering & Fascias
Rotten fascia boards, sagging gutters and soffits that let the birds in, fixed as one run of roofline. We replace fascias and guttering together so the brackets hold and the water goes down the pipe.
Lifted lead flashing round chimneys, valleys and abutments is where most Glasgow leaks start. We strip the old lead work, dress new lead properly and seal the joint so the ceiling stays dry.
Ponding felt, blistered seams and a flat roof that drips in a downpour. We repair what can be saved and lay EPDM rubber roofing over what cannot, with the edges detailed for the rain.
Slipped slates, cracked tiles, a wet patch that shows up after every front. A roofer surveys the whole roof first, then the repair is priced in writing so you know exactly what is being fixed.
One roofing contractor for the full re-roof: strip, timber checks, felt, battens, new slates or tiles and the leadwork. Scaffold is sorted, the site is kept tidy and the price is fixed in writing.
Moss holds water against the slates and slides into the gutters every winter. Roof moss removal lifts it off by hand, clears the gutters and treats the roof so it stays off for far longer.
Loose pots, crumbling mortar and damp on the chimney breast mean the stack needs looking at. Chimney repair covers repointing, new flaunching, cowls and lead, or taking the stack down cleanly.
Storm damage, a leak coming through the ceiling or slates hanging over the pavement. An emergency roofer makes it safe and stops the water first, then the full repair is priced in writing.

Straight answers
Asked on mostGlasgow roofs.
If your question is not here, send it through the contact page and we will answer it about your roof rather than roofs in general. The longer answers, with the reasons behind them, live in our roofing guides.
01Should I repair my slate roof or replace it?
Repair it if the slates are sound and only a few have slipped or cracked. Replace it if the nails have rusted through across the roof, the slates are delaminating or the battens underneath are rotten. The survey looks at both the covering and the timber from inside the loft and tells you which in writing, with photographs. We do not recommend a re-roof where a repair will hold.
02Can you match the existing slates or tiles?
Yes. Matching is the first thing we do, because a pitched roof has to look the same from the street and carry the same weight on the rafters. Slate is matched to slate by size and thickness, and tile to tile by profile and colour. Where a roof has been patched with the wrong material in the past, we say so and put right what the job allows.
03What is pitched roofing and does my house have it?
Pitched roofing is any roof with a slope: the slate or tile roofs on tenements, villas, semis and bungalows across Glasgow. Flat roofs on extensions and garages are the other kind. Most houses have both, a pitched main roof and a flat section somewhere, and the flat section gets the same survey and written price as any other EPDM flat roof we relay, on the same visit. The pitched roof carries most of the weather.
04Do you check the felt and battens?
Yes, on every pitched roofing job. The felt and battens are what hold the slates up and keep wind-blown rain out once it gets past the covering, and they are checked from inside the loft where there is access. Perished felt is renewed under the repair and rotten battens are replaced, because new slates nailed to rotten battens come off in the first storm.
05Do you do ridge, hip and valley work?
Yes, in the same job as the slates or tiles. Ridge tiles get rebedded or replaced, hips are dressed and the valley lead is checked and renewed if it has split. A ridge that is letting the wind under it is the usual reason slates start to slip, so it is looked at first on a repair rather than last.
06Which areas do you cover for pitched roofing?
Glasgow and the towns around it: Rutherglen, Bishopbriggs, Bearsden, Giffnock, Renfrew, Cambuslang, Clarkston, Milngavie, Clydebank, Kirkintilloch, Newton Mearns, Paisley and the places between, each listed with its distance from the city under the areas we cover. Put your postcode in the quote form and we will confirm.
