  • Moss was sliding off our tenement roof into the gutters every winter. They cleared the lot, took the gutters back to clean metal and treated the slates. First dry close in years.

  • Lead flashing round the chimney on our slate roof had lifted and the bedroom ceiling was marking. Surveyed it, priced it in writing, redressed the lead properly. No drama, no upsell.

    Craig B., Bearsden Google

  • Flat roof on the kitchen extension started dripping during a downpour. They came out in the rain, patched it and stopped the water, then came back and put EPDM over the whole thing.

    Margaret K., Shawlands Google

  • New guttering and fascias the full length of the house. Old timber was rotten behind the boards, which they showed me before touching it. Tidy job and the price did not move.

    Tom R., Bishopbriggs Google

  • Chimney stack was shedding mortar onto the pavement. Repointed, new flaunching, cowls on both pots, lead tray at the base. Explained every step and left the close spotless.

    Aileen D., Partick Google

  • Two slipped slates and a cracked ridge after the January storms. Fixed the same week, matched the slate, and the written quote came before anyone went up a ladder.

When a re-roof is the answer

Some roofs are past patching. The survey says which.

A slate roof in Glasgow fails one slate at a time until the nails have rusted through across the whole slope. Then every gale drops another two on the path, and a repair is money spent on a roof that is finished. The survey tells you which side of that line your roof is on, with photographs, before anyone talks about a re-roof.

If the roof can be repaired, we say so and price the repair. If it cannot, one roofing contractor itemises the re-roof: strip, timber checks, felt, battens, covering, leadwork, scaffold. A bigger job does not change how we work: the survey first, then the price in writing.

  • Nails rusted through across the slope
  • Slates dropping after every gale
  • Felt perished under the covering
  • Rafters or sarking gone soft

How the re-roof runs

Stripped, checked, felted, battened, covered. Then the scaffold comes down.

The old covering comes off and the timbers are checked before anything goes back. Rotten rafters and sarking are cut out and replaced, then the new felt and battens go on and the slates or tiles are laid to match the street. Ridges, hips and valleys are done in the same job, and the lead at the chimney and abutments is renewed, not reused.

The scaffold goes up before we start and comes down when the roof is finished, with the drive swept behind it. The roof is photographed from above before and after, so you see the timbers, the felt and the finished covering rather than take our word for it. The slate and tile detail on the slopes, the ridge and the valleys is the same pitched roofing work as on a single-slope repair.

What you are left with

A roof that reads right from the pavement. And the paperwork.

The price is fixed in writing before the scaffold goes up, and it covers the work described. If we open the roof and find timber the survey could not see, we stop, photograph it and put the extra in writing before carrying on. Warranty-backed materials only, with the terms in your paperwork.

Straight answers

Asked on mostGlasgow roofs.

If your question is not here, send it through the contact page and we will answer it about your roof rather than roofs in general. The longer answers, with the reasons behind them, live in our roofing guides.

What does a roofing contractor do that a roofer does not?

On a full re-roof, the contractor runs the whole job rather than one part of it. That means the scaffold, the strip, the timber checks, the felt and battens, the slates or tiles, the leadwork and the clearing up, all under one written price. A roofing contractor is what you want when the roof is being replaced rather than repaired, because one person is answerable for every part of it.

How do I know if my roof needs replacing rather than repairing?

You do not have to know. The survey looks at the nails, the felt, the battens and the timbers, not just the slates you can see from the street, and the report says plainly whether a repair will hold or whether the roof is finished. Where a repair is the honest answer, we price that roof repair instead, as a separate job with its own written quote.

Do you sort the scaffold for a re-roof?

Yes. Scaffold is part of the job and part of the written price, so you are not arranging it separately or finding a second invoice. It goes up before the strip starts and comes down when the roof is finished and checked, and the drive is swept before we leave.

Will the new roof match the rest of the street?

That is what the survey is for. Slate is matched to the slate on the neighbouring roofs and tile to tile, in weight and colour, so a re-roofed house on a Glasgow terrace or a tenement does not stand out from the pavement. Ridge and hip tiles are chosen to suit the covering rather than whatever is on the van.

Is the price for a full re-roof fixed?

The price is in writing before any work starts and it stays the price for the work described in it. The one exception is timber the survey could not see under the covering. If we find it, we stop, photograph it and put the extra in writing before going on. You decide with the photographs in front of you.

Which areas do you cover as a roofing contractor?

Glasgow and the towns around it: Rutherglen, Bishopbriggs, Bearsden, Giffnock, Renfrew, Cambuslang, Clarkston, Milngavie, Clydebank, Kirkintilloch, Newton Mearns, Paisley and the places between, each listed with its distance from the city under the areas we cover. Send us the postcode with the quote form and we will confirm before booking the survey.
