Moss clogging the gutters every winter?Lifted off by hand, then treated.
Moss holds water against the slates and slides into the gutters after every frost. Roof moss removal takes it off by hand, clears the gutters and treats the roof. Send us the postcode to book the survey.
Moss was sliding off our tenement roof into the gutters every winter. They cleared the lot, took the gutters back to clean metal and treated the slates. First dry close in years.

Lead flashing round the chimney on our slate roof had lifted and the bedroom ceiling was marking. Surveyed it, priced it in writing, redressed the lead properly. No drama, no upsell.
Craig B., Bearsden Google
Flat roof on the kitchen extension started dripping during a downpour. They came out in the rain, patched it and stopped the water, then came back and put EPDM over the whole thing.
Margaret K., Shawlands Google
New guttering and fascias the full length of the house. Old timber was rotten behind the boards, which they showed me before touching it. Tidy job and the price did not move.
Tom R., Bishopbriggs Google
Chimney stack was shedding mortar onto the pavement. Repointed, new flaunching, cowls on both pots, lead tray at the base. Explained every step and left the close spotless.
Aileen D., Partick Google
Two slipped slates and a cracked ridge after the January storms. Fixed the same week, matched the slate, and the written quote came before anyone went up a ladder.

Why the moss matters
Moss holds the rain on the roof. Then blocks the gutters.
A north-facing slope in Glasgow grows moss. It sits in the laps, holds the rain against the slates, and in a frost it expands and lifts them. When it dries it breaks off in lumps, goes down the roof and lands in the gutters, and the gutters overflow down the wall.
The survey checks how deep the moss has gone, whether slates have already lifted or slipped underneath it, and what state the gutters are in. That goes in writing with photographs before anything is priced, because how we work on a moss job is the same as on a repair.

How the moss comes off
Lifted by hand, slate by slate. Then the treatment.
The moss is lifted off by hand, working down the slope, so the slates are not driven up or flooded from below. The laps and valleys are cleared, the ridge is checked while we are up there, and every lump that comes off goes into a bag rather than down the pipe.
The gutters are cleared in the same visit, because that is where last winter's moss has ended up. Then the roof is treated so the growth is slowed and the moss stays off for far longer than a clean alone. If the fascias and gutters have suffered under years of sliding moss, the gutter repair is a separate job we can price at the same time.

Eight more roofing services.Same firm, same method.
Moss is often the first sign of something else on the roof, and every roofing service we offer starts with the same survey and the same price in writing.
Guttering & Fascias
Rotten fascia boards, sagging gutters and soffits that let the birds in, fixed as one run of roofline. We replace fascias and guttering together so the brackets hold and the water goes down the pipe.
Lifted lead flashing round chimneys, valleys and abutments is where most Glasgow leaks start. We strip the old lead work, dress new lead properly and seal the joint so the ceiling stays dry.
Ponding felt, blistered seams and a flat roof that drips in a downpour. We repair what can be saved and lay EPDM rubber roofing over what cannot, with the edges detailed for the rain.
Slipped slates, cracked tiles, a wet patch that shows up after every front. A roofer surveys the whole roof first, then the repair is priced in writing so you know exactly what is being fixed.
Slate or tile pitched roofing, repaired or replaced to match the street and carry the weight properly. Ridge, hip and valley work done in the same job, with the felt and battens checked underneath.
One roofing contractor for the full re-roof: strip, timber checks, felt, battens, new slates or tiles and the leadwork. Scaffold is sorted, the site is kept tidy and the price is fixed in writing.
Loose pots, crumbling mortar and damp on the chimney breast mean the stack needs looking at. Chimney repair covers repointing, new flaunching, cowls and lead, or taking the stack down cleanly.
Storm damage, a leak coming through the ceiling or slates hanging over the pavement. An emergency roofer makes it safe and stops the water first, then the full repair is priced in writing.

Straight answers
Asked on mostGlasgow roofs.
If your question is not here, send it through the contact page and we will answer it about your roof rather than roofs in general. The longer answers, with the reasons behind them, live in our roofing guides.
01Does moss actually damage a slate roof?
Yes, given time. Moss holds water in the laps between the slates, and in a west-coast winter that water freezes, expands and lifts the slate off its nail. The lump then dries, breaks off and blocks the gutter. Taking the moss off early is cheaper than the slipped slates and the overflowing gutters that follow it.
02Do you pressure wash the roof to remove moss?
Roof moss removal here is done by hand. A jet of water driven up a slate roof goes under the laps and into the felt, and it can shift slates that were sitting fine. Lifting the moss by hand takes longer, but the slates stay where they are and the roof is checked as we go.
03Will the moss come back after roof moss removal?
On a shaded slope it always tries. The treatment after the clean slows the regrowth so the roof stays clear for far longer than a clean on its own. How long depends on the slope, the trees around it and how much shade the roof gets, and we tell you what to expect for yours after the survey rather than quote a figure here.
04Do you clear the gutters when you remove the moss?
Yes, in the same visit. The gutters are where the moss ends up, so clearing the roof and leaving the gutters full would put the overflow back on the wall the next time it rains. Both are photographed before and after so you can see the run is clear without going up a ladder.
05Can you remove moss from a tenement roof?
Yes. A tenement roof is shared, so the survey report and the itemised quote are written to be passed round the close or sent to a factor. Access is usually from the hatch or a tower, and that is sorted as part of the job rather than left to the owners. Slipped slates found under the moss are listed separately as roof repairs so the close can decide on them.
06Which areas do you cover for roof moss removal?
Glasgow and the towns around it: Rutherglen, Bishopbriggs, Bearsden, Giffnock, Renfrew, Cambuslang, Clarkston, Milngavie, Clydebank, Kirkintilloch, Newton Mearns, Paisley and the places between, each listed with its distance from the city under the areas we cover. Put the postcode in the quote form and we will confirm and book the survey.
